So I took the NH out for a wee run over Morgan Territory Road and up Mt. Diablo a couple of years back. I made the mistake of bringing an audience with me. Whenever you have an audience you are more likely to have breakdowns. Sure enough, as we rolled into Clayton, the engine cut out. Initial diagnosis is charging system failure. Managed to transplant enough voltage from the Bonnie over lunch to make it home, and visit Arlen Ness Motorcycles on the way. Very pretty Vincent huddled amongst all the customs upstairs.

As I have a homespun alternator conversion, this fix is up to me. I have much better tools than I had when I wired it last (1991?), and having wired some datacenters in proper anal-retentive style since, the existing wiring on the bike really has to be redone properly. Here are some pictures of the current rat's nest.

Things have been mouldering for a long time due to work commitments however I did spot a ccrack in the frame behind the shock mounts - doubtless due me loading up the poor un-triangulated tube with luggage and racks over the years. JB-Weld and a solod steel slug to te rescue - didn't want to have to repaint. Probably ok for a fender strut - probably not for real load-bearing parts of the frame.
